There's that old story about an author who got a text from his publisher telling him that he had a commission to write a book about "ant hunting in Nepal". Unfortunately, after years of research, he delivered the manuscript only to discover that the text should have read " Plant Hunting in Nepal". Well, he just had to start all over again ... and eventually it got done ... there's a whole raft of these daft mistakes ... an over-the-phone request to write " Parrots of the World " misheard as " Carrots of the World" , and even a first draft which when delivered was grippingly entitled " Nifty shades of Grey".
It all turned out all right in the end. Strangely, I think I nearly went on the expedition described in the "ant" book ... nearly. But that's another story.
.
She naturally assumed that this was to be based around the famous Cardiffian and one-armed boxer, Twm Haf, who flourished in the one-armed world of 1930's Cardiff's boxing sub-subculture. It turned out to be a hell of a story, and eventually sold well in the Cardiff area, but when she sent in the manuscript she was horrified to find that the book she was supposed to be writing was actually "Un Nos Sadwrn." Well, that did OK too, but once bitten by the boxing bug she never shrugged it off and became the best female boxer in Cardiff female boxing circles for the next 23 years.
troednodiadau ...
Boxing doesn't actually take place in circles... for some reason the ring is rectangular.
I think I ought to mention that that thing about that boxing book was made up by me. All the forthcoming ones are going to be made up by me (and/or you) as well. Mind you, there's probably some real cock-ups as well.
And now ..music. Well, I'm still doing these "tributes" to the various bands who appear in " that book about "Sain Records" and tonight it's the turn of John ac Alun to perform for us ... although they've cheated a bit by getting in loads of other people ... I expect they're hoping that everyone in the Côr will buy the record. Maybe two. Anyhow, here's John ac Alun a Côr Ffermwyr Ifanc gan " Chwarelwr" .....
