AUTHOR'S NOTE ... despite appearances, I'll get to the Welsh bit shortly. There'll be fun on the way, so paid a becso , gwerin.
I've just been reading a brilliant book of Spanish cartoon strips.
In one of the stories the "goodies" are running away from the "baddies" and hide behind a giant billboard.
The baddies fire their ray-guns at it and blast a great ragged chunk out of the right-hand-side. This leaves only the left-hand-side of the message .
It's in Spanish , of course, but basically this changes the message from " I'm enjoying this drink" to "I'm drinking sweat"
Then the same thing happens at the next billboard, but this time the message changes roughly from
" I'm happy in my new pool" to " I'm happy bathing in piss."
This of course produces great hilarity all round.
An English equivalent might look this this ...hastily concocted by me about 5 minutes ago ...
DO YOU WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT ?
NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK? TIRED
AND DEPRESSED ?
DIET NOT WORKING ?
YOU WANT TO STOP FEELING
SLUGGISH AND LIVE LIFE TO THE FULL ?
Which, after the ray-gun treatment, and the disappearance of much of the right side, says
DO
NOTHING
AND
DIE
YOU
SLUG
Here's another quickly-thought-up example ...
GOING ABROAD ?
JUMP ABOARD ! WINTER
IN THE BAHAMAS, OR MAYBE SWIM IN
LAKE GUARDIA !
YOU CHOOSE FROM ANY OF OUR
HALF-PRICE FLIGHTS
WITH FREE TRANFERS !
Which. after a thorough ray-gunning, only has this left ...
GO
JUMP
IN THE
LAKE
YOU
HALF
WIT
What fun eh ! Anyway, as soon as I read those Spanish ones, I first thought ..
[a] I want to make some of those myself.
[b] Hey ... I wonder if I could do some in Welsh and/or French as well.
I'm working on it folks.
So .. why not, like me, try the "Billboard Challenge" in Welsh ?
Maybe it will be the first one ever !!!!!
Crumbs.
