I was doubly reminded of this when rereading one of the Hogwarts songs in Harri Potter a Maen yr Athronydd ..... Dumbledore's instruction to the assembled pupils was the very helpful.... " Pawb i ddewis ei hoff diwn." Yes .Brilliant. That's really going to add to the listener's joy.
Hogwarts, 'Rhen Hogwarts !
Gwna inni ddysgu rhywbeth wir,
Y rhai sy'n hen a'n pennau'n foel
A'r ifanc fu ddim yma'n hir,
Mae angen mawr i lenwi'n pennau
 phethau o ddiddordeb mawr
Oherwydd bellach maen nhw'n hollol wag
Heblaw am bryfed marw aballu'n awr,
Felly dysg inni bethau gwerth eu gwybod,
Atgoffa ni o bethau stdd ddim yn rwtsh,
Cofia ein pennill, fe wnawn ni'r gweddill,
Fe ddysgwn nes bydd ein pennau'n slwtsh."
Gorffennodd pawb ganu ar adegau gwahanol. O'r diwedd dim ond efeilliaid y Weasleys oedd yn dal i ganu ywdeithgan angladdol araf iawn.
Well, it's hardly surprising is it! Remember that thing I wrote about singing Welsh songs to different tunes.... well, that doesn't really work if you have a whole load of people choosing their own tune. And in the last post I showed you just three people in a small room singing a Plygain Carol with every word clear as a bell.
Anyway, I can sing that Hogwarts song quite effectively to the tune of " My Old Man's a Dustman" .... maybe you could try it yourself, or pick a tune of your own .... you know it would be Terrific For Your Welsh ..... and when we've got a few of you all with your own tunes, we could somehow or other combine them into our very own racket. That Brian Eno is good at that sort of thing I expect. Then we could "release" it and hit the Christmas market.
Then we could use that as a platform to get "them" to get on with getting the other HP books into Welsh .. it's a downright disgrace that there's only the first one, when every other planet in the Universe has got all of them.
I'm worn out now with all that tripetapping and thinking ... so we'll bring on the music .... it's that Mr. Huw
