But what I hadn't noticed until recently was a nearby grave with a much less clear inscription .... and a bit obscured ... here it is ....
bits mean.
Well, asen means a she-ass ... well, that isn't very flattering is it!
BUT ... it also means a rib. A-ha! Now that makes more sense ....
In Genesis 2:22 it tells us that Eve was made from one of Adam's ribs... that's more like it.
Here's a bit of it from YBeibl.net ... good stuff !
21 Felly dyma'r ARGLWYDD Dduw yn gwneud i'r dyn gysgu'n drwm. Cymerodd ddarn o ochr y dyn, a rhoi cnawd yn ei le.
22 Wedyn dyma'r ARGLWYDD Dduw yn ffurfio dynes allan o'r darn oedd wedi ei gymryd o'r dyn, a dod â hi at y dyn.
23 A dyma'r dyn yn dweud,“O'r diwedd! Un sydd yr un fath â fi! Asgwrn o'm hesgyrn, a
chnawd o'm cnawd. ‘Dynes’ fydd yr enw arni, am ei bod wedi ei chymryd allan o ddyn.”
24 Dyna pam mae dyn yn gadael ei dad a'i fam ac yn cael ei uno â'i wraig. Maen nhw'n dod yn uned deuluol newydd.
Hmm... that's not quite what is says in the English version!
21 Then the Lord God made the man fall into a deep sleep, and while he was sleeping, he took out one of the man's ribs and closed up the flesh.
22 He formed a woman out of the rib and brought her to him.
23 Then the man said,
“At last, here is one of my own kind--
Bone taken from my bone, and flesh from my flesh.
‘Woman’ is her name because she was taken out of man.”
Well... it's amazing what you find out when you follow these little trails of thought. That list of Welsh names I mentioned is ancient! It's got lots of interesting names in it which I suspect aren't much used these days .... you can probably work out quite a few of the English equivalents ...
