Anyway, that only gave you words beginning with g. That cleverly left me with plenty more potential posts using words beginning with other letters ... and this is one of them. Hah !
But first, a little example of what we are going to do. Well, you are. If you want to.
I've got this ancient English-Welsh dictionary ... it's a lovely thing, but it is full of ridiculously obscure English words that aren't even in my massive English Chambers dictionary. It was written way back in the old days by one W. Richards, LLD, who, it seems, has been revised, corrected and enlarged. I made that joke the first time, but I wouldn't want you to miss it.
Why anybody would want to know what all these ridiculous words are in Welsh , god only knows. But that's not our problem.
Here's an example.... one of the English words in there is ... "discubitory". That's not in Chambers Massive Dictionary. But look ... it gives the Welsh version of it. If we can find out what lledorweddle means, we can find out what discubitory means. Wow!
Discubitory, s. lledorweddle ( s =substantive = noun) *
So, according to my dinky dictionary, lled-orwedd (v) = to recline, lounge, loll
And I suppose the "le" at the end is "lle" ...so lledorweddle could mean " lounging-place" ... it might even be a lounge.
So that's one ! We've sorted out what "lledorweddle" means ....result !
Now .. here's a few more ... you're going to need that Welsh folks.... all you have to do is find out what they mean using the cunning clues provided by the aforesaid W. Richards.
Dicacity , s. siaradusrwydd
Defœdation , s. halogiad
Ducape , s. math o sidan masw
Dozel , s. dwsel, pistyll ; doreth.
Disseisin , s. difeddianiad trwy drais.
Dry-beasts , s. bronau hyspion.
Desume , v. cymeryd oddiwrth ; benthyca.
Dinetical , a. cylchdroadwy
I reckon that's quite enough for the average brain. So, to soothe said brain, here's a stunning rendering of "Dere Mewn" ... by Colorama of course ..... in a BANDSTAND. Perfect.
