Here's how you can do your accents on a mac if you need to .....
First you'll need to know where your "Option" key is ..... it's the ALT key to the right of the CTRL key usually.
ö ..... you press ALT and u simultaneously ... release .... now press o .... ö
ü .......... ALT+u ...release .... press u ....... ü
ï ............ALT + u .... release ....press i ...... ï
ë ........... ALT + e ... release .... press e ......ë
ä ............ALT + u ...... release.... press a .....ä
What about Ä you may ask ...... simples ....
Ä .......... ALT + u ..... release ..... SHIFT a ....... Ä
That's the umlauts sorted out .... what about those little hats .... â .... ê ...... î ..... ô .....ü
It's the same pattern but instead of pressing ALT + u you do ALT + i instead ...
â ........ ALT + i ..... release ....... press a ...... â
Â.........ALT + i.... release...........press SHIFT a ...... Â
and the rest go the same way.
It's a pity that these don't work for w and y though ......
Here's a few more for you ....who knows what languages you might want to type in ...
á ....... ALT + e ... release then press a .... á and so on ....
ñ .......... ALT+n ...release then n ....... ñ
õ ......... ALT + n ... release then o ...... õ
à .......... ALT + ` ...... release ... press a ........ à
¡ ......... ALT + the ! key.
¿ ....... ALT + SHIFT + ?
Using the ALT key in this way you can play around and find all sorts of symbols ....
π ß ∂ † ∑ œ ≈ ∫ µ ø ¶ ¢ ≠ ........ go on , have a go !
To be honest, I used to use a pre-prepared row of accented letters and symbols which I used to copy onto the bottom af any document I was typing, and just copy and paste letters from this onto my document ..... but that all went when my last-but-one computer packed in. I'll have to recreate it!
Meanwhile, here's some music ... the excellent ANHREFN with Cornel .... watch out for the "No Future" riff-rip-off" !! Great song ......
