I'm going to show you how it works using the start of a sample game in which someone who knows what they are doing plays against a twit.
The twit, although he has been told the rules, can't get them in to his thick head. For comedy and educational reasons..... here's the game so far, then I'm going to run you through it to show you what you do .... the first play, by the person who new what they were doing, was TRAMOR. it scored a massive 6x6 =36 ! That's because in Woosh your score is simply the number of tiles you've used squared ... he put 6 tiles down, so he gets 6 x 6 = 36 points.
All the triple-letter squares etc, all the double-word stuff, even the points on the tiles, they don't matter. It all hinges on the number of tiles you use, so it encourages you to make long words, not complicated ones.
Now Mr. Clever does RYSAIT and uses 5 of his tiles ... 25 scored.
The Twit makes COLL with 2 tiles, the gump, and gets only 4.
Mr. Clever uses 5 tiles to make YSTLYS and gets 25 points.
The Twit actually does something reasonable... but for the wrong reasons. He makes RHIFO hoping to get the triple word, but of course he doesn't, he used 4 tiles so he just gets 16.
Now Mr Clever uses 5 tiles to get YMWELD ( 25 points) and the Twit sticks AU on the end of CRYNDOD thinking, wrongly, that it will score well, but it doesn't ... 2 tiles used scores 4.
Throughout all of this, reasonably simple, normal Welsh words have scored really high points, and didn't take long to think of. The 14 tiles are a big help as well.
Now then, look at that block of 14 letters on the left side there ... that's what Mr Clever has got for his next go. What's his best shot, remembering that he's playing Woosh ?
I hope you will try this yourself .. it's brilliant, and you can't half rack up some huge scores. You can even play it with bananagram tiles, as you don't use the letter points at all, and you can even play it without a board, if you're careful to make your words neat and straight.
OK ... moving smoothly on to music time, here's 9bach with Llyn Du.... and the mountain rescue people won't be very pleased with her totally inadequate and frankly irresponsible outfit.
