It's called Rhyfelgri gyda llaw .... and it's packed with all the cliches of the Punk-era amateur Fanzine ... the cut-out-lettering, the stencilling, the nicked photographs, the obscure bands, the handwritten stuff, the little arrows on the tails of the letters, the useless competitions for which the prizes didn't exist and never turned up, the wacky stuff (the stick-on beetles, the silly meaningless 4722), the vast lists of "friends" who nicked paper from the office, had a boyfriend who had a car, worked in a music shop or had a weird name .... it's all there in its joyous exuberance.
The bloggy Gods have only allowed me this pic of the top bit unfortunately ... it stubbornly refused the other two pictures! Who knows why?
Now the point of all this is not just historical ... the real point is that it's a great project to make one of these ... or at least the front cover ... yourself. It can be about real bands, or it can be totally or partially imaginary ... it's the doing of it that matters, the having to think things up in Welsh. In fact it's absolutely terrific for your Welsh. You might want to do it a different way ...maybe with much higher production values, maybe on a PC... it doesn't really matter. I know a lot of you won't believe it, but back then computers were pretty primitive, and mobile phones didn't exist.
So, having left that thought in your mind, here's some music .... Gwenno .... Ymbelydredd
