It's a fascinating pool though.
Let's have an English example of what's different about the " if-only" version.
It's the first go of the game, and Reginald has got his seven letters ..... SNORCIK
Reginald thinks to himself ... if only I could pretend one of those was a blank and have it as any letter I want ... I bet I could get a really good word then !
Now, in "if-only" Scrabble, lucky Reginald can, if he wishes, turn over one of his letters to make it into a blank... which can be any letter he likes ... in fact, he can do it on any of his goes !
Oh, goody, says R.
He thinks about turning the I into an L for SNORKEL but that doesn't work.
He thinks about turning the S into an H for CHRONIC but that doesn't work either.
What can he do, boys and girls ? He would love to get a 7-letter word bonus.
Have a think whilst admiring this picture ..
Well, maybe he thinks " if only I could change the I into an E I could do ..... well, what could he do with SNORCEK ? ..... here's another picture if you want to think ... ....
YN MEDDWL YN MEDDWL YN MEDDWL
Of course .. he could get the 7-letter word CONKERS !!!!!!!!!!! Yo !
That's what " if-only" Scrabble does .... on every go, you've got a whole world of new possibilities opening up.
Now ... here's some Welsh versions .... it's your first go, and you would love to get a 7-letter Welsh word, like old Reg did with his English ones. And you can !
They can each make a 7-letter word if you make the right choice of what changes into what. Each word is Christmas/Winter related, and I've put the easiest one first, and last two are a bit more obscure ... here we go ...
[a] DOOGLAI
[b] ARÏPOST
[c] LLYNCTAN
[d] COWPINY
Of course, it could well be you don't get the same result as I did ... we'll see .... because there's a hell of a lot of possibilities in each one of them.
Let's have the music now ... this is Datblygu telling you exactly why he doesn't want people like me to learn his language ....
