They're pretty brief, they're generally interesting and you've got a vast stock of them up there in that gelatinous lump swilling around at the top of your head... hopefully.
The great thing about "capsule tasks" like this is that you can do them whilst having a bath, driving along the M25, snorkelling in the world's oceans, waiting in the queue at the pie shop or lying in bed worrying about Chinese CO2 emissions.
It will also help you to appreciate more fully the mammoth task facing those people who translate books and films into other languages.
Another useful feature of this particular task is that you can set it at your own level .... there's pretty obvious stuff like " Peter Duck" and Dombey and Son" and "Catch 22" and "Cakes and Ale" ...or you can go for top-end stuff like " Breaking Bad", "Everything you ever wanted to know about sex but could never pluck up the courage to ask" ( well, it's something like that}, or "The Old Curiosity Shop." I know you think that last one is easy but exactly what is a "curiosity shop"? Also, is it the shop that's old or the "curiosities ( if any) or both. It's not as simple as it seems, this translation lark. For that matter, what is "breaking bad?" A tricky tibial fracture ?
You can also have a look at already-translated titles and see if you agree with them.
For example, The House at Pooh Corner in Spanish is translated as El Rincón de Pu.
No mention of the house then ! Just the corner. Odd, don't you think? In German it's called Pooh baut ein Haus .... Pooh builds a house. That's a bit of a spoiler isn't it?
Then there is the really wacky stuff ..... and there's plenty of it
!
Hope you enjoyed all that ... and maybe you will give it a go.
Here's Jen Jeniro with a song about a Dolphin .... dreamy start ....
