They were the same book really ... Y Gwrachod ( The Witches) and Las Brujas ( The Witches). By Roald Dahl and Roald Dahl. I read them side by side for a bit until she arrived, the same chapter, Welsh and Spanish. It's always fascinating doing that, whether it's English/Welsh, Spanish/French ...your brain is having to switch tracks from second to second as you compare the sentences, the way they're structured, the way the same thing is phrased in the different languages, looking for similarities and differences. Very absorbing.
And then looking in the paper that she had brought, there was an article about how knowing two languages can stave off ( an odd usage that) the onset of dementia .... and apparently a lot of that is due to the constant "switching" that the brain has to do .. a bit like changing channels on the TV, or wavebands on the radio. This effect of making the brain switch between different modes is highly beneficial., according to the latest research.
Mind you, science doesn't always get things right. But it sounds like it ought to be good, making the brain jump out of its normal mode and jump to a new tracks.
We all want it to be true, us lot !
