We were surprised that there were only really two "enclosures" ... cunningly labelled A and B. We had a look around A first .... there were cats, rabbits, a few tortoises, hares, frogs ... looked after by several Irishmen. Their only food seemed to be beetles..... the animals, that is , not the men.
Moving on into room B, we found a really odd collection.... polecats and wolves on the ground, and magnificent vultures, kites and swallows flying around, plus a rather sad-looking tank of lobsters , which we found out were there as food. Even stranger, both staff members looking after them were vicars.
[a] While we were there, lots of animals were turned away... goats, hens, some crows, and several toads. ... why, do you think ?
[b] What other people might have been allowed to look after the poor creatures in room B ?
[c] Which room would a collection of hedgehogs gone into ?
[d] Neither room had just one of any of the animals. Why was that ?
Well, after all that thinking, here's a fine Cerys Matthews song, plus words ... " Rhyw Dachwedd yn Hwyr "
