It's set in a little village in the hills, it's full of odd characters, there's plenty going on (!), lots of disputes, little tribes, enmities, friendships, lots of their time is spent drinking and carousing, the pub is the hub ..hey, good slogan that ... (I don't suppose I'm the first to have thought of it, but if I was. it's going to look this this .. "The Pub is the Hub™ !!) , there's a fair lot of "affairs" going on, both business-wise and bonking-wise, and it's very funny, with a huge cast of oddballs, sirens, witches, opportunists, priests, petty officials, drunks ... very like the little Welsh village I lived in for two years as a student at Bangor University.
If you've read and liked books like, say, "Dirgel Dyn", or Trôns, Clochemerle is the book for you. But, needless to say, for some reason unknown to me, it hasn't been translated into Welsh.
Seriously now ..... us learners could really do with a much wider choice of books to read. Especially if the Welsh government is keen to get lots more people learning Welsh. There's lots more things they need to do as well.
I've been able to read a huge range of books in French, German and Spanish such as many of the William books, both of the Winnie-the-Pooh books, P.G Wodehouse, the wonderful set of Petit Nicolas books ( brilliant and very funny), Queneau's Exercices de Style and loads of others ... and what about a Welsh translation of Zazie dans le Metro ... OK, it would be for more experienced learners, but what a book it is......
Now, here's a spot of music ... very appropriate at the moment I think ....
But I can hope !
